Government Mineral Springs, April 2002

On Friday, April 19th, Our troop, set out to Government Mineral Springs, in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. 24 boys and 6 adults. This was our "Pre Camporee", getting us ready for Camporee in May. This was our first opportunity to test drive our new patrol boxes the boys had been building and painting over the last six months. They were equipped with new stoves, (The new stoves were actually used "No Name" stoves, which leave a little bit to be desired, we will likely return them and buy some new Coleman's) Cook gear, clean up supplies, etc.. They were a huge success.

The boys and adults had a great time, the weather was great, still some snow on the ground, but no rain. We practiced patrol camping and cooking, had camp inspections, worked on skill's. We held our first official "Scouts Own", a non- denominational worship service, led by Jeff Jenkins. Jeff did a wonderful job, and the troop was very responsive and respectful. After the service, the boys just hung out quietly around the adults camp fire and talked. Mission accomplished.

Our outing, was a two nighter, something we don't do that often. It was real nice, to have two evenings together. Saturday felt much less rushed. The boys did great, no problems, with the typical scout activities. We held some neat challenging games and activities.
