On August 22,23,24 our troop hiked an 11-mile trail along the Lewis River. We set out from the middle school at about 5:00 on a Friday afternoon; which was unusual for us. We arrived at the Lewis River trailhead 31 and set out down or should I say up the trail heading down the river. We were fortunate that we found the campsite that we did because we were some 100 feet away from the river straight up the bank. We climbed down to find a nice little beach suitable for our troop. Kids swam and even fished in the calm little spot we had, and freezing.
By 1:00 the next day we set out. We hiked for an easy 3 hours; this section was easier than the first 3 miles. We hiked 4 miles that day and we found another nice beach only about 100 feet east of Bolt Camp. Two members camped in Bolt Camp but the others camped on the beach. We found a little Nome village, (if you don’t know what they are ask someone that went on the campout) in the trees by Bolt Camp. We played games and swam until nearly ten. Here is a good picture of our SPL Kris Campbell and the adults in there swim shorts. 317 picture.
We woke up early but not many kids had to be woken up by the adults, I think we all wanted to get to the trucks so we could get home. We made breakfast and set out. We were split into two groups and the first made it to the bridge first. Here is the whole troop on the bridge. 323 picture. We all had fun and we all want to do another backpacking trip, and less car camping.
