On February 21st-23rd, our troop spent two nights camping
at the beach. We stayed at Ft. Canby, near Cape Disappointment
on the Washington Coast. The weather was wonderful, slight amount of rain Friday
evening, then all day Saturday and Sunday, it couldn't have been better.
The theme of our outing, was Orienteering. Vince Vierck and Allen Campbell, set up a 7 mile course, requiring a GPS receiver and a compass. We split up into 3 groups, and with our waypoints and compass bearings, we all set out to find some hidden treasures. There were some very cool treasures at each one of the compass readings, like knifes, insulated coffee mugs and more. It was a lot of fun, and it was neat to apply the skills we had learned at the last months meetings. Along the way, we found some old WW-II batteries that we explored. Some groups had lunch on top of them, and looked out at the view of the ocean.
We all ate good, had a nice camp fire, and enjoyed watching the Raccoons at night. A very interesting thing, when we woke up Saturday morning, the Coons had gotten into some of the boys drinks, and had put holes in and drained 12 cans of pop. We figured, they must have done this before, because we can't imagine they could smell the soda through the cans.
It was a great weekend. For those of you who didn't make it, you missed out on a lot. Also, on the way home, we stopped at the "Logger" a restaurant with HUGE hamburgers, they were great!
