Camp Meriwether, November 02

Camp Meriwether

Troop 359 had the privilege to spend a weekend at Camp Meriwether on the 23 & 24 of November. The weather was outstanding, cold, but mostly dry. It misted slightly in the late afternoon and the morning but nothing harsh. Not bad for a late November weekend.

The scouts of the troop explored the camp most of the day going through the woods and the trails, and also the beach, while the adults stayed back and held down camp. In the evening some delicious food was prepared (from most patrols). The Hawks made some delicious spaghetti in the evening, no meatballs? Next time! Even though the patrols have progressed in their cooking, some more than others, the troop still has room for improvement.

After all the food was gone and all was cleaned up, everyone gathered around for a campfire while the patrols performed skits. They started out good but eventually went down hill so we had to cut them off. We had some interesting skits from Jordan G. and Tyler M. When the skits were over Vince Vierck the scoutmaster read the troop a poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee"

Following the campfire was a combination of manhunt and hide and seek. The scouts enjoyed the game and the curfew on the scouts was 12:00. Luckily for the adults, who have a hard time staying up that late, everyone tiered out faster than expected and most were in bed and asleep by 11:00. Now just because Troop 359 was asleep doesn’t mean everyone was. We had more than one attack from the pesky raccoons who loved our garbage.

In the morning the breakfast was cooked and again we had some excellent meals. The troop was ready to go home though, so everyone got their gear packed up quickly and ready to load on the trucks. It wasn’t long until everyone was finished with the packing. Before we left though we took about a one mile hike on the beach. At half way before we turned around the troop gathered around on a stump and a chapel service was put on by our Chaplin Aid Jordan Green. It was very well done and everyone went around and said what they were thankful for in life. After Jordan’s chapel we hiked back and loaded our gear in the trucks, did a garbage sweep, then headed for home.

On the was back home we stopped at the Tillamook Cheese factory and most scouts had a burger and some ice cream, some more than others such as Hans who went for the triple scoop. Good Job! It was a good way to end a great weekend. Everyone had fun and I think most can truthfully say that if you weren’t there you really missed out.
